Betws-y-Coed is an ideal hub from which to explore the whole of Snowdonia and North Wales as roads radiate out from the village giving easy access the the numerous local attractions and activities. See the attractions map above for more information about local attractions.

Wales is famous for its castles. Dolwyddelan Castle built by the Welsh Princes, and Conwy Castle on the coast built by Edward II are nearby. There are also castles at Criccieth, Beaumaris, Harlech and Caernarfon within easy reach.

The Snowdon Mountain Railway, runs to the peak of Snowdon from Llanberis. The Ffestiniog Railway runs from Blaenau Ffestiniog down to Porthmadog where it now connects with the Welsh Highland Railway that runs from Porthmadog to Caernarfon via Beddgelert. There are also other steam railways to visit.

Other major attractions in the area include Bodnant Garden (National Trust) and the Italianate village of Portmeirion (made famous by the original TV series 'The Prisoner').

There are numerous activities to enjoy around Betws-y-Coed including walking, climbing and mountain biking. The Marin Trail mountain biking routes start from Betws-y-Coed. There is also a mountain bike trail nearby at Penmachno. Mountain bike storage is available in the garage at Dolgethin.

There are plenty of walks ranging from forest and valley walks to scrambling in the high peaks of Snowdonia.

If you fancy some coastal scenery, the sea is not far away with the Victorian resort of Llandudno to the north, and the sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay in Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula to the west.

There are many things to do and shops to visit in Betws-y-Coed. Shops include the Anna Davies Welsh Wool Shop and well known names such as Cotswold Outdoor, Edinburgh Woolen Mill, Hawkshead and Stewart Cunningham. There are numerous places to eat in the village to cater for all tastes.
